From 22nd–26th June 2026, Landsat ICT Solutions had the privilege of facilitating a week-long training workshop on the Biobanking Information Management System (BIMS) at Protea Hotel, Kampala. The training brought together participants from 15 African Union Member States under the Africa Biobanking Network (AfBN), coordinated by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).

As the developer of the Network Information Management System (NIMS) for Africa CDC, Landsat led participants through practical sessions on the use of the Biobanking Information Management System (BIMS), a core component of NIMS designed to digitize and streamline biobank operations. The training covered the complete biospecimen lifecycle, including specimen collection, deposition, reception, labelling, storage, checkout, shipment, and implementation planning, equipping participants with the skills required to successfully deploy and utilize the platform in their respective countries.

This engagement reflects Landsat’s growing role in advancing Africa’s digital health ecosystem. By developing and transferring innovative health information technologies, we are supporting African institutions to strengthen biospecimen management, improve data quality, foster research collaboration, and build resilient public health systems.

At Landsat, we are proud that solutions developed in Uganda are helping transform health information management across the continent. Together with Africa CDC and our partners, we remain committed to building secure, interoperable, and sustainable digital platforms that accelerate research, disease surveillance, and evidence-based healthcare across Africa.
